Frieze New York has unveiled its performance schedule for the 13th edition, taking place from May 7th to 11th at The Shed and the High Line in Chelsea. This year’s program includes new works by Finnish artist Pilvi Takala, New York-based Asad Raza, and American artist Carlos Reyes.

“Attendees of Frieze New York 2025 will have the chance to connect with artists globally,” stated Christine Messineo, Frieze’s director of Americas. “The dynamic nature of their art is not only showcased in gallery displays but also permeates the architectural spaces of The Shed and the adjacent High Line, where visitors will experience a series of newly commissioned performances.”

Takala, based in Berlin, will showcase The Pin, a performance that questions societal norms governing behavior in everyday environments like offices and parks. Curated by Taylor Zakarin, associate curator of High Line Art, this marks the second collaboration between High Line Art and Frieze, following Matty Davis’s Die No Die (The High Line) in 2024. Takala represented Finland at the 2022 Venice Biennale.

Another co-commissioned performance by High Line Art and Frieze is Raza’s Immortal Coil. This interactive event will incorporate seedlings, cuttings, and clippings from various High Line plants, curated with the assistance of Richard Hayden, the High Line’s senior director of horticulture. On May 10th, participants will be invited to walk the city trail carrying one of these plants. Additionally, climate journalist Zoë Schlanger will present a lecture on environmental issues, while Los Angeles-based singer Kelsey Lu will create a song to accompany the performance. Participants will be encouraged to take their plants home.

Reyes, who splits his time between Caguas, Puerto Rico, and New York, investigates ephemeral experiences through his sculptural and site-specific works. At The Shed, he will present Freestyle Hard, an immersive soundscape performance on May 8th, featuring live bird calls projected throughout The Shed, including its escalators, coat check, and passageways.

Returning to the fair after its debut in 2022, the “Artist Plate Project” will feature plates designed by over 50 artists, including Amy Sherald, Mickalene Thomas, and KAWS. The proceeds from these limited edition plates will support the Coalition for the Homeless, providing essential services such as meals and housing assistance. Boutique design firm Atelier Eightyeight will produce 250 editions of each plate.
