YZA Voku

Responses from Javier Corrales, interactive developer and cofounder, and Izan Sampedro, graphic designer, Cuchillo.

Background: YZA Voku is a Madrid-based director and visual artist. With expertise in art direction, photography, and film, YZA explores innovative artistic expressions through generative AI software. The website serves as a platform to exhibit his artistic vision.

Design core: The website’s design, interactions, and animations center around two fundamental concepts representing the artist’s identity: the point, integral to his visual branding, and the loop, symbolizing his production skills. Visitors are immersed in these concepts through two main design features: a centrally anchored menu that symbolizes the point and dynamically adjusts in size, and a title viewer that moves in one direction, suggesting an endless loop.

Furthermore, the interface adopts a circular design, with an infinite slider as the backdrop, creating a dome-like visual experience where images distort.

Favorite details: While we take pride in the entire website, the project detail page stands out as our favorite. When a user accesses project information, a large, pulsating point appears at the center, framing the title. This point brightens as the user scrolls, seemingly animated by their movement. Conceptually, this represents the artist observing the user, illustrating the dynamic between creator, artwork, and viewer. The cinematic aspect is enhanced by varying color, size, and noise frequencies—60 fps, 21 fps, and 10 fps—creating a unique contrast.

Challenges: We aimed to balance a strong design personality while honoring YZA’s art. The objective was to design a website that complements his creations without overshadowing them. We believe we have achieved a characterful result that respects YZA Voku’s remarkable work.

Special navigational features: The menu adapts to the page’s needs, displaying controls, file filters, and links—all presented in a single line of text that adjusts in size from the center.
