Mod Meets Modern For Gucci FW25

Lights, camera, action—Gucci’s Fall/Winter 2025 collection was brought to life by a live orchestra. The show took place in an expansive space adorned with interlocking Gs reflected on the floors and ceilings, creating a futuristic vibe reminiscent of a classic perfume bottle. The garments showcased a blend of retro and contemporary styles.

This season, fur and lace dominated the runway. Twiggy-inspired A-line mini dresses were styled with silk scarves over baseball caps, while the iconic horse-bit design was transformed into a drop-chain necktie. Updated pastel patent leather skirt suits featured boxy silhouettes, and glitzy 1980s logo catsuits were paired with refreshed shaggy Jackies.

The collection marked the first presentation since Sabato De Sarno’s departure a few weeks prior, crafted by the brand’s internal design team. De Sarno’s previous collections often explored the concept of matching sets for men and women, with complementary looks appearing shortly after each other on the runway.

This time, the collection was entirely co-ed, with standout pieces for men including outerwear and striped duffle bags layered over well-fitted monotone suits.

Gucci is not the first luxury brand to merge genders on the runway; Acne Studios notably executed dual runway shows separated by a mirror during FW20. This reflects the fashion industry’s growing trend of blurring gender lines and the rising popularity of menswear influences in women’s fashion.

Additionally, this isn’t the first instance of Gucci relying on its design team. Following Alessandro Michele’s unexpected exit in November 2022, the team created collections for four seasons before De Sarno’s confirmation and debut.

Observers may notice recurring patterns and silhouettes from the FW23 runway in this latest collection. In both instances, the design team incorporated vibrant hues of orange, green, and blue to contrast with subdued formalwear. Sheer, sequined, and lace low-rise midi skirts paired with neutral long-sleeve sweaters also emerged as key silhouettes. De Sarno’s six shows, which faced criticism for their commercial approach, marked a distinct aesthetic phase between those designed by the collective team.

While Gucci has not yet appointed a new creative director, the brand’s declining sales and the launch of its latest collection have drawn significant attention from industry watchers.
