ROOM+ Design & Build has introduced an impressive modern apartment situated on a narrow urban lot in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, distinguished by its whimsical cloud-shaped openings that enhance its architectural appeal.

Occupying a 70-square-meter area along a 4-meter-wide alley, the building is nestled among a diverse array of neighboring townhouses, each with varying dimensions.

The design revolves around three core concepts: elegant loft-style private suites, adaptable semi-public areas, and subtle integrations of nature within the urban fabric.

A creative combination of circular and cloud-shaped openings on both the front and rear facades allows natural light, fresh air, and scenic views to filter in while providing privacy and comfort.

The architects state, “The interplay between solid and void, light and shadow created by these unique openings and curvilinear interior spaces of Cloud House strongly implies a glimpse of imaginary nature, which evokes a sense of wonder and lets the occupants experience a dynamic feeling as they wander between the ever-changing clouds beyond the hustle and bustle of the city.”

Internally, the communal semi-public spaces are carefully crafted to provide residents with both convenience and unexpected visual delights.

The ground floor features a courtyard and bike parking, while a sculptural spiral staircase serves as both a circulation path and a cozy space for interaction.

A lounge on the mezzanine and a rooftop terrace provide inviting areas for residents to connect, fostering a sense of community.

Within the limited space, six loft-style suites and two standard studios are strategically organized to optimize comfort and usability.

Each suite features a minimalist loft positioned above the entry and bathroom, utilizing the 3.5-meter ceiling height to create a living space that feels both spacious and cozy.

The interiors are characterized by a neutral color scheme and simple materials, featuring multifunctional furniture that integrates seamlessly with structural elements such as minimalist wooden staircases and lightweight steel-framed floors topped with cement boards.

At night, the cloud-shaped openings are illuminated by the building’s interior lights, creating a striking visual effect.

Here’s a look at the architectural drawings for the building.
