After New Balance’s reintroduction of the classic 1000 model in 2024, the Boston footwear brand has collaborated with BEAMS to create a new version that merges minimalism with maximalism. This Japanese brand takes a monochrome yet multimedia approach, reinterpreting the runner originally released in 1999 with a mix of different sneaker materials.

At first glance, the shoes seem alike, but a closer look at the uppers reveals a variety of materials sourced from New Balance’s design heritage. Textured mesh underlays contrast with smooth suede overlays on one shoe, while the other features glossy leather overlays paired with microfiber underlays. Additionally, the N logos on each shoe are subtly asymmetrical, showcasing a unique 3D finish.

Although all elements, including the uppers and cushioned soles, are rendered in deep black, BEAMS incorporates reflective material into the laces for a modern touch. The cobranded logos appear on the insoles, utilizing the BEAMS color palette.

U.S. customers will have the first opportunity to purchase the BEAMS x New Balance 1000s, launching at the BEAMS POP-UP LA on Thursday, April 10. After the U.S. debut, the shoes will be available through the BEAMS online store and select retail outlets.
