Customer specific pricing: how to give each wholesale account its own prices

The ways to give wholesale accounts different prices, what Shopify and BigCommerce require for each, and when price groups are enough.

Customer specific pricing means each wholesale account logs in and sees only its own prices. Shopify’s built-in B2B needs Plus for it, at $3,650 CAD a month on a one-year term; on cheaper plans, an app can add it. On BigCommerce, Price Lists sit on Performance (both checked October 2026).

Syndicate builds wholesale fashion suppliers and distributors their own online stores, so we have a stake in what you choose.

How do brands handle different prices for different customers today?

Almost every wholesale brand has more than one price. Maybe there’s a PDF per tier. Maybe the sales manager just knows. Or a tool like Brandboom or ApparelMagic holds the price lists.

  • A PDF per price tier. Boutique, department store, distributor, each with its own file.
  • Prices from memory. One person knows who pays what.
  • The wrong file sent. A boutique sees the distributor’s prices, and the call gets awkward.

What are the ways to set prices per wholesale account?

There are four common ways. They differ in how far one account’s prices can differ from the next.

MethodHow it worksWatch out for
Price groupsAccounts share a price list by type.Works only if everyone in a group pays the same.
Prices per accountEach account has its own prices, shown after login.Often limited to a platform’s top plan.
Quantity breaksThe price drops as the buyer orders more units.Rewards volume, not the relationship.
Separate filesA PDF or spreadsheet per account or tier. The file you just changed may not be the one the buyer opens.

How does customer specific pricing work on Shopify and BigCommerce?

Both offer it, at different plan levels. Here’s what each publishes, checked October 8, 2026.

One detail catches brands out. Shopify counts the three catalogs across all your B2B markets. Assigning all three catalogs to one market uses the whole limit, per Shopify’s plan features page.

What does the jump to Price Lists cost on BigCommerce?

On BigCommerce, moving from customer groups on Growth to Price Lists on Performance is a plan change. At the annual rates, that’s $1,499 − $79 = $1,420 USD more a month. Over a year, $1,420 × 12 = $17,040 USD.

Performance is a starting price, so a larger store may pay more. These figures exclude payment processing and apps.

Do you need customer specific pricing, or just price groups?

If your accounts fall into a few groups, price groups are enough. On Shopify that’s up to three catalogs on the cheaper plans. On BigCommerce, customer groups start on Growth. If accounts negotiate their own prices, you need prices per account, or you’re back to separate files.

Shopify and BigCommerce both handle it well on the right plan, and your own team can set it up. Syndicate sets it up for you instead, with each account’s prices loaded before their first login.

How does Syndicate handle prices per account?

Syndicate’s team provides expertise specifically for fashion and eCommerce. Prices set per wholesale customer are part of every store we build, not a higher tier. It’s a wholesale store you own: the domain, the hosting, the files and every login.

Compared with Plus: $3,650 CAD a month for a store you don’t own vs from 500 CAD a month over one year for a store you do. It’s paid off after the first year, then there’s an optional care plan for maintenance and support, from 500 CAD a month, no contract.

Every build includes research on up to 100 wholesale buyer leads. Every lead is vetted: we confirm it’s an active business, provide contact details, and set up their account on your store with you. To roll it out to buyers, see how to get buyers to use a wholesale portal.

What does the research say about buyers who order on their own?

McKinsey’s 2024 B2B Pulse Survey of nearly 4,000 decision makers found buyers spend roughly a third of their interactions on self-service, at every stage of buying (McKinsey, September 2024). It’s a cross-industry survey.

We checked these prices and plan details in October 2026. Vendors change these pages without notice, so confirm them at the linked sources before you decide.

Keeping a different price file for every account, and wondering about a store you’d own? Would it be a bad idea to see what that looks like with your own products? Book fifteen minutes or call 1-844-404-4796.
