Faire’s commission explained: what it costs to sell there

Where Faire’s fees come from on every order, what a $1,000 order pays out, and when the commission is worth paying.

For a brand based in North America, the Faire commission is 15% on marketplace orders, plus a one-time $10 fee on a new retailer’s first order. Retailers you bring yourself through Faire Direct cost 0%. That’s per Faire’s Help Center, checked September 28, 2026. Payment processing is extra.

Syndicate builds wholesale fashion suppliers and distributors their own online stores, so we have a stake in what you choose. Every rate below comes from Faire’s own Help Center.

Why does Faire feel free until the payouts arrive?

Because it is free to join. There’s no subscription and no listing fee. Then the fees show up, line by line, on every payout.

  • The invoice says one number and the deposit says another. Commission, the new-customer fee and processing all come off first.
  • A retailer Faire introduced you to years ago still costs you 15% on every reorder, even if they’d happily order from you directly.
  • Small first orders get hit hardest, because the $10 fee is the same on any size of order.

Wholesale In a Box, reviewing Faire in April 2026, says brands often keep 70 to 78 cents on the dollar on a typical new-customer order with a modest promotion. Here’s where the rest goes.

How much does Faire charge brands in Canada?

Canada falls under Faire’s North American pricing. You pay two things on every order: a commission, which depends on how the retailer found you, and processing, which depends on how fast you want your money.

60-day1.9% + $0.3060 days after it ships

Two things matter for Canadian brands. Faire says you can be paid in Canadian or US dollars, depending on the bank account you connect. And if you’ve seen “25% on first orders” quoted elsewhere, that’s Faire’s pricing for brands outside North America: a 10% referral fee on top of the 15%, according to Faire’s article for those brands.

What does a $1,000 order actually pay out?

Faire publishes its payout formula: the order total plus any shipping reimbursement, minus commission and processing. Here’s a $1,000 order, leaving shipping aside, on the 30-day payout:

$1,000 orderCommissionNew-customer feeProcessing (2.4% + $0.30)You receive
Marketplace, first order$150.00$10.00$24.30$815.70
Marketplace, reorder$150.00—$24.30$825.70
Faire Direct$0.00—$24.30$975.70
Our math, using the rates and formula in Faire’s North American pricing article, checked September 28, 2026. Any promotion you fund comes off the order total first.

Payout speed matters too. Pick next-day payout on that first order and processing rises to $35.30, so you get $804.70. Small orders feel the flat $10 most: on a $150 first order with 30-day payout, fees come to $36.40, about 24% of the order.

How does Faire Direct work, and what’s the catch?

Faire Direct is Faire’s answer to “why pay commission on my own customers?” You send a retailer your own Faire Direct link. If they place their first order with you through it, you pay 0% commission on their orders. Faire says those retailers still get its perks, like 60-day payment terms for eligible stores and free returns on first orders.

There are two catches. The 0% only applies if that first order comes through your link, so a retailer who first found you on the marketplace stays a marketplace customer. And Faire notes that brands in its Insider program may have to pay shipping on some Faire Direct orders. Processing fees apply either way.

When is the Faire commission worth paying?

More often than the math suggests, because the 15% buys more than a listing. According to its Help Center, Faire:

  • Takes on the credit risk. Processing covers guaranteed on-time payment and handles retailers’ 60-day terms, fraud, late payments and defaults.
  • Finds you retailers. The $10 fee pays for first-order incentives, free returns on first orders and the marketing that brings new stores to you.
  • Runs the back office. The commission covers order management, retailer checks, and marketing and CRM tools.

If you want a marketplace to carry the credit risk while you test wholesale, 15% can be a fair trade, with no upfront cost and no bad debt. It gets harder to justify once most of your sales are reorders from retailers who know you well, because those pay the same 15% as the first order. That’s where a store of your own comes in, and where new stockists can come from too, as below. Before moving any retailer off Faire, read Faire’s terms for brands.

How does Faire compare with a store you own?

You might have doubts about a company you’ve never heard of. Maybe you’ve tried a buyer portal nobody used. Maybe you’d rather not be tied to another platform. Or maybe Faire already brings you the buyers you need. Each is fair, and each has an answer below.

Syndicate’s team provides expertise specifically for fashion and eCommerce. We build a wholesale store for you that you own, with each account’s prices built in. Your established accounts can reorder there, and you pay no commission on any order.

New stockists don’t have to come through a marketplace, either. Every Syndicate wholesale build includes research on up to 100 wholesale buyer leads. Every lead is vetted: we confirm it’s an active business, provide contact details, and set up their account on your store with you. That way, new accounts come to a store you own instead of finding you next to every other brand on Faire. Financing starts at 500 CAD a month over one year for most wholesalers. Your store also gives your own search traffic and social media a place to send buyers. Buyers who’d rather keep ordering by PDF or email can keep doing that.

One thing to plan around: Faire’s pricing policy says your prices on Faire must match or beat your prices anywhere else, including your own wholesale site. So your store won’t win on price, and it doesn’t need to. It wins on convenience, with no commission. We compared what JOOR, Faire, Shopify and Syndicate each cost on the same $100,000 of orders.

What does the research say brands keep from a Faire order?

Our $1,000 example keeps 81.6% on a marketplace first order, with no promotion and 30-day payout. Wholesale In a Box’s April 2026 review, which draws on independent brands selling on Faire, puts the usual figure lower, at 70 to 78 cents on the dollar once a modest promotion is included. Promotions and payout speed make up the difference. It’s an estimate from people who work with brands, not a survey, and we didn’t find published data on what brands actually net from Faire. Your own payout summaries are the best source, since Faire breaks down every order.

We checked these rates on Faire’s Help Center in September 2026. The same article says Faire last changed its North American pricing on July 5, 2023. Double-check the current rates before you plan around them.

Would it be a bad idea to see what your reorders would cost through a store you own? We’re happy to run the numbers with you. Book fifteen minutes or call 1-844-404-4796.
