Text description provided by the architects. The extension and renovation of Gabrielle-Roy Library aims to distribute public functions throughout the building, enhancing interaction with collections and the city. Each floor, both in the existing structure and the extension, introduces a new interface, creating a library experience that blends projection and introversion.

Situated in the vibrant Saint-Roch neighborhood, Gabrielle-Roy Library serves a diverse community, which has seen significant growth in recent years. This project emphasizes the importance of connecting with the neighborhood through significant urban and architectural gestures. The ground floor features a spacious outdoor area, enhancing the library’s urban character and fostering interaction with the adjacent public space.

This project transforms the library from a quiet book repository into a vibrant social hub, providing spaces for community activities, workshops, and various public functions. The design encourages interaction and engagement, making the library a true ‘third place’ for its diverse community.
