Found has been filled with unexpected developments in its second season, and the latest episode continues this trend. The gripping storyline features Gabi ( Shanola Hampton ) being held captive by a man she previously helped imprison. This episode also unveils that the enigmatic lawyer, Heather Tollin ( Danielle Savre ), is actually Sir’s ( Mark-Paul Gosselaar ) sister, Lena. Predictions made earlier this season about Lena being Sir’s accomplice have come true, raising questions about what this means for Gabi since the person aiding Sir is also his sibling.

Lena Views Gabi as the Villain, Not Sir

Season two of Found delves into how true crime narratives can alter perceptions of victims and offenders. The in-universe internet quickly turns against Gabi when Sir performs a “heroic” act by rescuing a kidnapped girl. Although viewers understand his motives are to demonstrate Gabi’s dependence on him, society is quick to vilify a victim. Those who truly know Sir recognize his nature as an irredeemable monster. Gabi, Lacey, and even Christian, his younger brother, who was shielded from their mother’s abuse, acknowledge this truth. However, Lena cannot seem to grasp it.

Earlier in the season, Lena called Gabi a “traitor” and attacked her when she confronted Sir at their former high school. Lena has consistently tried to distance Sir from Gabi, even questioning the validity of Gabi’s testimony regarding her own kidnapping. Unlike Christian, who recognizes Sir’s wrongdoing, Lena has shown an unusual hostility towards Gabi. In a TV Insider interview, Danielle Savre mentioned that Lena believes her brother is innocent due to being “brainwashed” throughout her life, but there may be more to it.

Does Lena Feel Supplanted by Gabi?

On some level, Lena likely realizes that Gabi is truthful. Yet, it is easier for her to view Gabi as a manipulative traitor than to face the reality that Sir has abandoned his biological family to form a new one with Gabi. From Lena’s perspective, Gabi has effectively taken her place.

Sir is deliberate in how he describes his relationship with Gabi. He intends to present them as a married couple in the Netherlands but insists their bond is familial. He tells Christian that despite their blood relation, Gabi is his “family.” At the farmhouse, he instructs Gabi to pledge her loyalty to him rather than her father. The dynamic between Gabi and Sir is complex, but a significant aspect seems to revolve around Sir acting as a paternal figure, a role he has had to assume since childhood.

After their mother’s death, Sir was left to support his siblings, despite being a child himself. He had to become a father figure to both siblings. This experience has left him with deep-seated pain and resentment, especially towards Christian, who received preferential treatment. Sir’s resentment stems not only from being forced into this role but also from feeling unappreciated.

One might assume that after a childhood of being thrust into a parental role, Sir would seek nurturing for himself, but that is not the case with Gabi. Although he relished moments when Gabi cared for him during his captivity, his primary aim seems to be caring for Gabi and receiving gratitude in return. Their relationship is intricate and cannot be easily defined; however, it appears that Sir is attempting to recreate his childhood experiences in a context where his efforts are recognized. He desires a second chance.

From Lena’s viewpoint, it likely feels as though Sir has replaced her with Gabi. Considering the timeline, Lena would have just reached adulthood when Sir took Gabi. Picture being a young woman observing a man, who is akin to a father figure, rave about how exceptional the girl he intends to adopt is. Just as Sir resents Lacey for “taking” Gabi from him, Lena seems to harbor similar feelings towards Gabi for “taking” both her brother and father away.

Lena’s feelings manifest in her brief romance with Trent, which ended when she chose to represent Sir. Even Christian, her other brother, effectively “chose” Gabi when he decided to assist her in finding Sir. Repeatedly, the men in Lena’s life seem to favor Gabi over her. While it’s evident that Sir would never want Gabi to come to harm, this pattern of being overlooked suggests a potential for danger. Speculation has already arisen that Lena may have been the one to kill their abusive mother, not Sir. She perceives Gabi as an adversary and a traitor. If our theories hold true, she may resort to extreme measures to protect her brother. Gabi could face not only the threat of another kidnapping but potentially an attempt on her life. Whether this is to shield her brother from Gabi’s testimony or as retribution against the woman she sees as her replacement, it seems plausible that Lena may try to kill Gabi.

New episodes of Found air Thursdays at 10 p.m. EST on NBC and can be streamed on Peacock in the U.S.
